The author reflects on a recent introduction to the critical vision and methodology (e.g., semiology) of Roland Barthes, whereupon he recognizes a comradeship with Barthes specifically and French intellectual history and its oppositional consciousness generally. Although this spurs him to think of a longer term project ... on these French critics (the Intelligentsia) that have influenced him for decades in forming fearology.... He asserts they may be some of the most important pre-fearologists of European history....
