Abstract

The intention of this project was to provide a baseline estimate of the prevalence of gambling and gambling problems in the DOC prison populations. The study design was a rudimentary survey format from an opportunity sample of individuals being processed at the Coffee Creek Intake Center. Due to time constraints relating to paperwork processing and operational requirements the consensus was to develop a basic survey that would take only a few minutes to complete but would provide data that was comparable to data collected in recent Oregon gambling prevalence studies. The goal was to survey at least 1,000 participants as a simple opportunity sample of individuals being processed at the Coffee Creek Intake Center. Data collection began in December, 2017 and ended in April 2018.
