Analysis and behaviour of prestressed concrete deep beams

Abstract

An extensive survey of literature on the elastic and ultimate strength analysis of deep beams is presented together with test results on reinforced concrete deep beams. The absence of information on the analysis and behaviour of prestressed concrete deep beams led to the undertaking of the present research which was carried out theoretically using the finite element method and experimentally by testing ten moderately deep beams. The parameters studied were the bond property of the prestressing steel, the degree of prestressing and span to depth ratio. Test results are compared with theory and various design recommendations are suggested.
