Abstract

Best-Practice Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of Los Chillos Hydroelectric Plant Upgrade presents the identification, evaluation, and management of selected most relevant potential environmental impacts that could be produced as result of the execution of the upgrade project by the operator and owner, the Electrical Utility of Quito (EEQ) and its contractors. International guidelines and manuals have been used in order to enforce the regular practice for developing EIAs in Ecuador. This Master’s Degree Project (MDP) is aimed to provide EEQ with a preliminary assessment of the possible environmental impacts of the upgrade project, presenting relevant information for a sound decision-making process within EEQ, and for the future benefit of the final and official EIA. This MDP should not be considered as an official EIA of the upgrade project, as the author is not a registered environmental consultant, and has been prepared for education purposes only, with the authorization of EEQ.
