Abstract

The paper reviews the concept of sustainability by examining if the current Sustainability Frameworks support the introduction of technology into remote communities. The role of technology whether through the use of solar energy, the development of greenhouse farming, or the improvement of water collection is to enable a community to be self-sufficient and achieve the ultimate goal of food security. Focused data collection was used to specifically look at problems that The Sustainability Framework programs were designed to solve, the degree of program success as well as the challenges encountered in the implementation. By analyzing these points, we are able to get a clearer view on how new technologies that have to ability to improve overall food security can be implemented in communities displaying a high rate of poverty. This paper reiterates that the sustainable livelihoods approach certifies that giving communities the power to be decision-makers allows for better implementation.
