Carpets and textiles communicate cultural values to those who make and use them. Recent research has shown that textiles may also offer producers an avenue for the expression subversive discourses and resistance. War rugs began to be made in Afghanistan following the Soviet Invasion of 1979 and offer weavers’ responses to the dramatic events surrounding the war in Afghanistan.eng
