During the years between 1939-1945, the Jewish People faced a tragedy which was unprecedented in human history; systematic and organized genocide. One of the primary problems during this period was the attempt to save European Jewry from extermination. This problem was faced by the Yishuv in Eretz Israel as well, which was then in the midst of its struggle to establish the future Jewish state in Eretz Israel. The nascent Yishuv, which numbered only half a million people at this time, faced a difficult question of priorities: whether to devote most of its resources to efforts aimed at the saving of European Jewry or to the building of the future state.
