Proposal Of An Environmental Management Plan For Polychlorinated Biphenyls In The Electricity Company "quito"
Abstract
Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) contamination in Ecuador, has taken special importance on the environmental protection agendas of electric utilities of the country. One of the most important electricity distribution companies, the Electricity Company Quito, requires environmental management initiatives to avoid the human health and environmental risks associated with PCB contamination in some of their electric equipment. This study presents an environmental management plan for PCBs in the Electricity Company Quito. It evaluates the present situation of the PCB contamination in the company, as well as the alternatives available for the PCB management. The document suggests suitable activities to deal with the PCB contamination, and finally defines practical strategies for a successful plan implementation.
