Abstract

The aim of this report is to present a case study for clinical discussion. The case presented demonstrates how culture plays a role in the attitudes, beliefs and perceptions of gambling, treatment accessibility and service delivery. Research that examines gambling and problem gambling in ethnospecific communities is sparse and it is, therefore, the aim of this report to present a case study to provide an example of working with gambling problems in the Italian Canadian community. The case presented is that of a 53-year old father and widower with a longstanding history of a gambling problem and a diagnosis of a mixed anxiety - depressive disorder. This report will provide a brief overview of the case and the gambling treatment program this client is participating in. Furthermore, a case history and case plan and intervention will be presented for clinical discussion.
