Abstract

At the request of the Nova Scotia Department of Health (NS Health), Baseline Market Research Ltd. (Baseline) completed a Prevalence Study on Problem Gambling in Nova Scotia (1996 Study) with a total of 801 randomly selected residents of Nova Scotia. Dr. Henry Lesieur of the Department of Criminal Justice Systems, Illinois State University, served as a special consultant to the research team from Baseline. Dr. Lesieur's work in the field of problem gambling studies, in conjunction with Dr. Sheila Blume, produced the South Oaks Gambling Screen (SOGS), the primary research instrument for the measurement of problem gambling.
